Six cleaning modes — what each one does
Remove duplicate lines
The standard mode. Keeps the first occurrence of each unique line and removes all subsequent identical lines. The order of the original list is preserved — the first time a line appears, it stays in its position; any later appearances are removed.
Remove duplicate words
Operates at the word level rather than the line level. Splits your entire text into individual words, removes duplicates across the whole text, and reassembles the unique words. Useful for cleaning keyword lists where the same keyword appears multiple times across different lines, or for reducing repetitive language in a draft.
Dedupe + sort A–Z
Removes duplicates and then sorts the unique lines in alphabetical order. This is particularly useful for creating clean, sorted lists from messy data — email lists, domain lists, keyword lists, product names. A sorted, deduplicated list is also much easier to scan manually for further issues.
Dedupe + sort by line length
Removes duplicates and sorts from shortest to longest line. Useful when you want to prioritise shorter entries or when the length of the entry reflects its importance (shorter URLs, shorter keywords, shorter names).
Show only duplicates
Instead of removing duplicates, this mode shows you only the lines that appeared more than once. This is useful for auditing a list to understand what was duplicated before you clean it — or for finding overlapping entries between two lists that were merged.
Duplicate report (count)
Shows every duplicated line alongside how many times it appeared. The result is formatted as "line text (×3)" for each duplicated item. This is useful for understanding the distribution of duplicates in your data — whether you had one entry repeated many times, or many different entries each repeated once.
Three comparison options that change the results
Case-insensitive
By default, "Apple" and "apple" are treated as different lines. With case-insensitive mode on, they're treated as the same. The first occurrence (preserving its original casing) is kept and the duplicate is removed. This is essential for cleaning email lists, domain lists, and keyword lists where the same entry may have been entered with different capitalisation.
Trim whitespace
Strips leading and trailing spaces from each line before comparing. Without this, " apple" (with a leading space) and "apple" would be treated as different entries. With trim on, they're identical. This is particularly useful for lists that came from a spreadsheet or copy-pasted from a web page, where invisible leading/trailing spaces are common.
Ignore empty lines
Filters out blank lines before processing, so empty lines between entries don't count as a "line" and don't get deduplicated against each other. Keeps the focus on the actual content lines.

Email list cleaning
Before sending an email campaign, you need a list where each address appears exactly once. Duplicate sends annoy recipients and can trigger spam filters. Paste your email list, enable case-insensitive and trim whitespace, and run the dedupe — you'll get a clean list with every duplicate removed. This is one of the most common uses of a duplicate remover online.
SEO keyword list deduplication
When building keyword lists for SEO campaigns, it's easy to end up with the same keyword appearing multiple times — especially when merging lists from different tools.
